2021 is finally with us and with it more approved vaccines developed by brilliant scientists. These vaccines bring the hope of a return to a more normal existence where we can see loved ones, smile at people in the street and revive much-missed entertainments industries that been so hard hit this year, bringing back jobs and the fulfilment they provide.
2020 taught us how resilient we are as a species and how important the amazing key workers are to our society, often despite being in low paid and previously under-appreciated roles. Let's hope that new appreciation is a permanent shift in perspective. Employers quickly shifted to remote working some even having to overcome regulatory challenges to do so. Let's hope some of this flexibility remains and allows us to spend more time with our loved ones and doing more of what we love.
Every year my new year's resolutions include riding my mountain bike more. This year though, I want to try and do everything more sustainably. Drive more sustainably, eat more sustainably, use stuff (?) more sustainably (no chemicals). No charging 1 hour down the motorway and back for 45 minutes of riding. Drive slowly, spend the weekend and leave the campsite better than you found it.
I'm optimistic that the composting toilets we're developing at CompoCloset will enable more people to do more this year while being more sustainable.
Here's to 2021.
