Hey Compo Crew,
hope you all had a fantastic start to the new year.
I've got some great news. We've received an update from the plastic mold makers and they are tearing it up!
They've already cut steel and are putting together some of the different molds.
The metalwork is also coming along. Here is a video of a sample from our custom hinge mold.
Plastic molds, metal molds it might be a bit confusing. You see, each part of Cuddy will have a separate mold. The biggest ones are of course the base and the seat, but Cuddy's solids bin is a custom bin too. Same with his liquids bottle.
Once assembled, the injection molds are sampled - a step called First Article Inspection.
It's not THE 'moment of truth', more like, 'OK, that should be the right shape, let's see how they look'.
You see, injection molding is an art, as well as a science, and the pressure, temperature, and cooling rate all, play a role in how the pieces look when they come out of the mold.
We hope to have some Cuddy-shaped samples soon and some pictures for you all to see.
It's really exciting.
Stay tuned!
